ICD-9/ICD-10 Dual Audit

CMS created the GEM files in an attempt to allow providers to measure the impact of the ICD10 transition. Using these files to complete the assessment has had an unintended consequence. Providers and Analysts have discovered that the documentation is simply insufficient to apply the ICD-10 codes.

With this, Revant began working with a select providers to identify a method for overcoming this obstacle. After more than a year of focusing on the issues, Revant developed the concept of a “Dual Audit.” Drawing upon Revant’s long history of coding audits, an audit tool was developed that identifies the weaknesses of current coding as it relates to ICD-10 codes.

Revant’s Dual Audit program identifies a select sample of accounts using a scientific method that focuses on the largest risk areas for an individual facility. The identified accounts are then audited using the Dual Audit tool by a group of skilled ICD-9/ICD-10 auditors. These auditors identify not only future risk areas under ICD-10, but also existing risk areas under ICD-9. The findings from these skilled auditors are then interpreted into a concise report which becomes a road map for making needed changes today and in the future.
